Maui - Day 8

I was able to drag myself down to the seashore before dawn again. This time, I had to brave wind and rain. I clambered over Black Rock to fish the very rough sea. It wasn't a very pleasant morning of fishing. I had a difficult time catching bait. The bite was off and my rig was repeatedly harassed by a lobster who clipped my tiny hook off. I did get a good pull on some frozen squid that I had brought with me. That fish was off before I could even get to the rod. Other than a visit from a pod of spotted eagle rays and a several sea turtles, it was a quiet and lonely morning. By the time Michele asked me to bring home some coffee grounds for our breakfast, I was ready to go.

The second part of the morning found me back at Goldfinch Tattoo parlor in Lahaina. The previous night, Michele and I spoke with the owner/artist Jasn and he was nice enough to draw up a design (even though it was an hour past closing) that would integrate with and cover up my older tattoo. The work took an hour and a half and it turned out great! I never liked my old tattoo and now I love it.

We spent the rest of the day in Kehei with Michele's parents and Kaden because they have one more day in Maui. We enjoyed our last mai tais, finished packing, and headed to the airport.

As I write, we are all a little sad and very tired. Our red-eye boards in 5 minutes.

We had an amazing time in Maui. Hawaii is paradise. Spending time there with our family was even better than I ever expected it could be.
