Maui - Black Friday

Today was the best day yet. Heath, Michele, the boys, and I took the car on an adventure to the north of Maui.

I started the day before dawn by hiking to Black Rock to fish. I had no problem catching bait, had a large fish on, landed a weird and wonderful crab, and saw several giant green sea-turtles.

Michele, Heath, and I took the boys snorkeling in Honolua Bay. It was a gorgeous and calm day. Each of us got dinged by coral. Noah got the worst of it. Hiking down to the bay was through tropical rain-forrest (jungle). It was intense.

We continued down the one-lane road to get some banana bread from Julia's. I
was glad to spend some time in a Hawaiian village. The taro plateaus were very interesting to me.

After banana bread, we hiked down to Olivine Pools. These are natural pools dug into the lava-bed reef. The water was warm, kid friendly, and full of fish.

We finished to day at a luau. It was a nice mix of cheese and culture. The food was great and drinks were included. We had a blast. The boys loved the performance. They particularly enjoyed the fire-dancing. I particularly enjoyed the hula. I am very thankful to my sister-in-law Nicole for making arrangements. I think the luau will be an experience that will stick with the boys.
